Governor Bala Mohammed has reassured victims of the Bababa Plaza fire disaster at the weekend in Bauchi that the state government will assist them with capital to restore their businesses.
He said, “Victims of the Bababa Plaza fire incident will be the first to benefit from the state government’s financial assistance plans for the traders in the state.
The Governor who was addressing the affected victims during a visit to the scene of the incident, also called on spirited individuals to support the victims in providing them with other needed assistance.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Bauchi state, we are here to commiserate with members of the market association and traders that were affected and the owner of the Plaza over the monumental loss of properties that happened yesterday night”.
Senator Bala Mohammed, while expressing concern on the level of damage caused by the incident, said that the state government will take engineering estimate of the affected building for its immediate rehabilitation.
On the non-functional firefighting equipment in the state, the governor described the fire inferno as a wake-up call for the state government to strengthen the operational capacity of the fire-fighters for efficient and effective service delivery.
Mohammed stated, “I regret all the inconveniences and the lost occurred here, it has come as a wake-up call to us as a government. The fire service agency is not working in tandem with my vision for the New Bauchi State, but I want to assure you that we will take proactive measures to overcome the challenges”.
The owner of the Plaza, Alhaji Nasiru Bababa expressed confidence on the ability of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to support the victims of the fire disaster to restore their businesses.
