Kaduna Not Having Premier League Team Shameful – SWAN VP

In spite of having the best sports facilities in Northern Nigeria, it is shameful that Kaduna State does not have any team presently playing in the NIgeria Professional Football League (NPFL)

Vice President North West, Sports Writers Association of NIgeria (SWAN), Alhaji Idris Malikawa expressed this on Sunday in Kaduna, while inaugurating new executives of SWAN, Kaduna State chapter at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

“We are proud that Kaduna State and in the North has world class sporting facilities, but are ashamed that it has no team playing in the Premier League.

“Kaduna has the world standard Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Murtala Muhammed Square which has facility for all sports, Ranchers Bees Stadium and other facilities, making it the only State with faxility for all sports in the North,” he said.

Malikawa therefore, appealed to the Kaduna State Government to make efforts in ensuring a premier league team comes on board in the state.

Further in his remarks, the SWAN VP North West said that the new Excos should hit the ground running.

He charged them to put the association first and bear in mind that they are to serve and not be out to enrich selves.

Malikawa also urged them to be united and promote peaceful co-existence through sports.

“I was with a former Commissioner of Police in Kano at one time and he told me that the only time the State enjoys two hours of no record of crime is when the Super Eagles are playing an international match,” he added.

The new executives inaugurated after passing thorough screening by the Joseph Jide Bodunde-led electoral committee are; Comrade Isaiah Benjamin of Leadership Newspapers (Chairman), Shehu Usman Abdulahi of Nagarta Radio (Vice Chairman), Okpani Jacob Onyewu Dickson of New Nigerian Newspapers (Secretary) and Abimaje Moses of AIT (Assistant Secretary)

Others are Kabruk Stella Solomon of NAN (Welfare Officer), Idris Dari of FRCN (Financial Secretary) and Michael James of Desert Herald (Treasurer).

Other members of the SWANECO which conducted the election were all the candidates were unopposed, were Juliet and Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani

Notable dignitaries who were at the inauguration are; the Zonal Coordinator Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, North West Zone, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris, Kaduna State FA Chairman, Alhaji Sherreeff Alkassim, represented by Alhaji Yusuf Best, SWAN Vice President North West, Alhaji Idris Malikawa and Zonal Secretary North West SWAN, Alhaji Abdulraheem Aodu.

Others are National Organising Secretary Youth Sports Federation of NIgeria (YSFON) l, Personal Assistant to Soeaker Kaduna House of Assembly, Tasiu Musaand Ahmadu Bello Stadium Manager, Mr. Gideon Malo.

The oath of office was administered on the new Excos by Barrister Abu Usman.
