Bauchi Assures Bababa Shopping Mall Fire Victims of Alleviation



Governor Bala Mohammed has assured victims of Bababa Shopping Mall fire incident at the weekend at Wunti Market in Bauchi metropolis, of his government’s assistance to mitigate their losses.

The Bababa Shopping Mall, one of the biggest market complexes in the metropolis was in the early hours of Saturday went ablaze which cause (s) is yet to be ascertain.

The Governor on getting report of the fire outbreak went there and participated in the rescue efforts, while sympathizing with victims of the inferno which gutted about 70 of the over 100 shops of the mall.

Senator Bala Mohammed, who at the fire scene vividly looked worried, urged victims of the incident to take it as an act of God, while thanking Him that no life was loss in the unfortunate fire.

He also assured that remote and immediate causes of the incident will be investigated by relevant authorities with a view to forestall similar occurrence in future.

The public relations officer of the state fire services, Abubakar Bala who spoke on the incident, said it all started at about 12.45am of Saturday when the Mall traders and people generally went to bed.

Malam Abubakar Bala said however that men of the fire services responded to the emergency calls and rushed to the scene of the incident, unfortunately, the shops upstairs were virtually all affected by the fire.

At the time of going to press, nobody could ascertain the cause of the inferno which lasted several hours before it was brought under control by a combined team of fire fighters.

Some hoodlums seen at the fire scene forcing shops and stalls opened looting items inside were halted from the spree by combined efforts of security operatives and vigilante groups.

Some victims of the incident who courageously spoke, called on the state government, other spirited bodies and individuals to come to their aid to enable them pick-up businesses again.
