Federal Government has approved the release of N80 million to Federal University Dutse (FUD) to recruit staffs to the varsity’s College of Medicine.
This was disclosed by the outgoing varsity VC, Professor Fatima Batul Mukhtar in her remarks during the formal handing over ceremony of the institution’s administration to her successor, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Muhammed.
Professor Batul who attributed her success to commitment, hardwork, and upholding of the principles of continuity, said, “I am pleased to inform the gathering, that I have accomplished all my pledged in transforming FUD to modest centre of learning, character, and infrastructural developments all around.
“I am proud to mention that we have excelled in various disciplines both in physical structures, human capital development, training and research, in addition to the securing of a befitting security formation, fire service department, to mention but a few.
“Least amongst includes training of more than 105 academic staff both within, and outside the country, upliftment of some of our academic staff numbering 86 to full fledged Professo’rs in their areas of specialization, formation of various centres, departments, and upliftment of numerous centres alongside with numerous new courses accredited to FUD through the support and encouragement of Federal Government’s intervention agencies such as NUC, TETFUND among others.
According to her, running a university should not be vested in the hands of its vice chancellors alone, but a collective responsibility of all and sundry.
She called on her predecessor being an astute scholar, to vest responsibility on trust, passion, and transparency in discharging his new assignment.
She also wish him a successful tenure, and called upon staff, management, and students of the university to extend same cooperation, and support rendered to her in the last five years to her predecessor for the success of the institution.
Earlier in his acceptance speech, the new VC Federal University Dutse, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Muhammed, stated, “I want to assure our council, the Senate, management and students that I am aware of the huge responsibility that comes with this position, and I intend to do my utmost best to discharge my duty to the best of my ability.
“As universities are run on the basis of ideas and committee system, I intend to carry these critical segments of the university along as we move forward.”
He appealed to the university community especially to our unions to join hands with her to move the university to their desired heights.
