A 65 years old farmer in Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State, identified as Alfa Bashiru Akinlotan was on Wednesday evening found dead on his Cocoa farmland.
According to the Oyo State Commandant of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), operation Amotekun, Colonel Olayinka Olayanju (rtd), Alfa Bashiru Akinlotan met his untimely death while trying to put off the fire razing his Cocoa and Cashew plantation.
The Amotekun Commandant in a WhatsApp message stated that Cocoa and Cashew plantation of the 65 years old farmer was set ablaze by unknown persons.
“Alfa Sikiru Akinlotan from Gbogi compound, Isale Akao area area, Igangan, Ibarapa North local government, died inside his farm at itigbo, Apodun road, Igangan on Wednesday, February,10th,2021. It happened that his Cocoa farm with his cashew farm was set ablazed .Wherein he met his untimely death while he was trying to quench off the fire.he was never attacked by any Fulani nor other person”, he said.
Colonel Olayanju added, “Sir, Bashiru Akinlotan went to his farm this morning 10-02-2021 along Apodun and lgangan road but, by 5:30 pm we met him dead on Atral root about 20 metres away to his 12 acres Cocoa plantation”.. The Amotekun Commandant stressed that the incident was reported to lgangan police station where the corpse was released for burial by eight o’clock this night (Wednesday night ).
“This happened today, account of the incident was sent by the Amotekun Coordinator Ibarapa North who incidentally is related to the deceased. Its important to note that his death is not as a result of attack by Fulani or any other person. This is important before merchant of fake news will rush to publish misinformation as usual.”
