President Muhammadu Buhari has flagged – off Construction of Railway line linking Kano, Katsina and Maradi States in Niger Republic with an extension to Dutse capital of Jigawa state.
Speaking online, president Buhari said his administration has embarked on completion of the 1,424 kilometer Lagos to Kano railway line which would link up with Katsina-jibia- Maradi in Niger Republic.
President Buhari explained that, Federal government has also awarded contract for the Port Harcourt – Enugu-Makurdi- Maidiguri railway line at eastern part of the country and others at Imo state and Damaturu in Yobe state.
Earlier speaking, Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi said the Kano-Katsina-Jibia- Niger railway line project which has twenty five kilometer extension into Niger republic would also have 94 kilometer branch line from Kano to Dutse the capital of Jigawa State.
Mr Rotimi said the project has fifteen rail stations of different categories across Major cities, towns and villages.
He said the project would be completed in 2023 and when connected with the on going Lagos-Kano railway line, would boost revenue generation of the country.
Governor Aminu Bello Masari while speaking expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for the project, stressing that, people of Katsina State would be happy for the achievement’s made during President Buhari’s leadership.
Alhaji Aminu Masari appealed to the Federal Ministry of Transport to ensure completion of the project before tenure of the current administration ends.
Chief Executive Officer of MOTAENGIL ENGENEERING CONSTRUCTION ENVIRONMENT executing the Railway line project, Mr. Emmanuel Mossa promised that the company would complete the project as agreed.
Both Governors of Kano and Jigawa states respectively, expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for the project.
The ground breaking ceremony held at Kwarin Tama village in Katsina was performed on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari by Minister of Transport, Chief Rotimi Amaechi and attended by Governors of Katsina, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari; Kano, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Jigawa, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar alongside with a high powered delegation from Niger Republic led by the country’s Minister of Transport Sa’d Sa’ad.
Others at the veremony include, Ministers of Information, Lai Mohammed; Interior, Ra’uf Aregbisola with those of Water Resources; State of Health; Foreign Affairs; Science and Technology as well as their Niger Republic Counterparts. Emirs of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman and Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero were also amongst the first class Emirs who attended the occasion.
