A weeklong annual event christened ‘Press Week’ of Correspondents’ Chapel, Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is scheduled to commence Monday during which Governor Bala Mohammed and some traditional rulers in the state would be honoured with awards of various merits.
The weeklong activities would also feature the launching of the chapel magazine which highlights happenings in the state within the past few months of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led administration, workshop and facility visits to some important developmental projects in Bauchi metropolis and its environs.
A statement by the week organizing committee chairman and secretary, Abdulwahab Muhammad and Mohammed Kawu said the week would be declared open by the state commission of Information and Communication, Alhaji Garba Dahiru, as Governor Bala Muhammad is billed to close the week Thursday this week.
It said that a veteran journalist and former Managing Director of the Champion Newspaper, Mr. Emma Agu and Dr. Hamid Mu’allyidi of the Mass Communication Department of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi will deliver lectures at the workshop for members on Tuesday tagged “Role of Media in the Promotion of Peace, Unity and Security in Nigeria”.
According to the statement, there will also be radio talks, novelty football match between Correspondents’ chapel of NUJ and Government House Press Crew which will be kicked start by the State Commissioner of Youths and Sports.
“There will be a facility tour of some projects executed by the Bauchi State Governor, special visits to sick members of the chapel, as outstanding personalities will also receive awards of excellence for their immense contributions in their respective callings”.
The awardees include Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed as the best journalist-friendly Governor, “Icon of Modern Democracy”, an award in respect of his achievement in infrastructural development of Bauchi state.
Governor Bala Mohammed is the first Governor in the history of Bauchi state to receive an award from journalists in the Correspondents’ Chapel, while Alhaji Bala Maijama’a Wunti, the Group Managing Director, NAPIMS is another distinguished caption of industry who is receiving a meritorious award for exemplary leadership and humanitarian assistance to the common man.
Royal fathers to be awarded include Journalists Award – Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, the oldest two emirs in Bauchi state, Emir of Ningi – Alhaji Yunusa Mohammed Danyaya and Emir of Jama’are – Alhaji Ahmadu Muhammadu Wabi 111.
