Anambra monarchs undergo compulsory COVID-19 test

Traditional rulers in Anambra State were on Wednesday subjected to COVID-19 test by the state government.
In a brief remark, the chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe reminded royal fathers that COVID-19 testing was not a death sentence but was key to early detection as it would increase their chances of survival.
Achebe, who spoke through his deputy, Igwe Sunday Okafor of Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area of the state, berated some Nigerians, who still believe that COVID-19 was a lie.
He urged them to shun fears and avail themselves of the free COVID-19 tests, saying that health is wealth.
The tests were carried out by Medical Personnel from the state Ministry of Health at the Traditional Rulers’ Council Chambers, Government House, Awka.
Speaking on the exercise, the traditional rulers who had undergone the testing, hailed the Anambra Government for carrying out the exercise.
The traditional rulers include Igwe Kenneth Orizu of Nnewi, Igwe Pius Omachonu of Olumbanasaa in Anambra West. Igwe Felix Onyimadu of Ukpor, Igwe George Ekwealor of Umuoba Anam in Anambra East and West and his Akwaeze counterpart, in Anaocha LGA Igwe Christopher Okpala.
They urged government to extend the COVID-19 testing to all the villages in the state to enable their subjects benefit.
They promised to ensure full enforcement of COVID-19 guidelines in their communities
On her part, the state Diseases Surveillance and Notification Officer, Mrs Nelly Dike explained that the second wave of COVID-19 appeared more deadly.
She expressed satisfaction at the turnout of the traditional rulers, adding that collection of the samples would enable them to identify those that have contracted it for commence of treatment.
She stressed that their being aware of their status will help to curb the spread of the virus in the communities.
