The federal government through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has given 2,240 rural women N20,000 cash grants in Zamfara.
Presenting the cash grants to beneficiaries in Gusau, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajia Sadiya Umar Faruq said, 160 vulnerable women from each of the 14 local government councils in Zamfara State will benefit from the scheme.
Hajia Sadiya represented by the Technical Adviser on Conditional Cash Transfer and Cash Grants for Rural Women Programmes, Malam Abubakar Hashim revealed that over N44.8 million will be given to the benefiting women in Zamfara in the ongoing exercise.
The minister assured that the programme will be sustained by the Federal Government under the ministry to complement President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment of reducing the rate of poverty in the country.
She called Nigerians to continue giving all the necessary support to the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari to enable him provide basic necessities for the people.
The Special Assistant to the President on Humanitarian Affairs, Alhaji Musa Ahmed Bungudu said the Cash Grants for Rural Women Programme will touch the lives women particularly rural women, vulnerable women and women with disabilities.
He said the scheme was embark upon by the federal government to cushion the effects of poverty especially in the rural areas of the country.
