No fewer than 27 teams from the three senatorial zones in Anambra State have registered to take part in the state’s Super 8 soccer tournament scheduled to take off February 1, 2021.
Giving insight over the weekend on how the teams were drawn, the Chairman of the Super 8 tournament committee, Prince Oliver Ndigwe said 13 teams were picked from the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, six from the South, while eight were drawn from the North.
According to him, the teams are to play at zonal level, where two qualifying teams would be selected to represent each zone at the championship.
He said, “The winning club shall go home with N500,000; while the second and third positions shall receive N400,000 and N200,000 respectively.
“The tournament was one of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) project aimed at discovering, nurturing and developing talented footballers from the grassroots.”
On her part, the Brand Manager, Aspire FC Adazi, sponsor of the tournament, Miss Chidinma Ezeaso, said the club chose to sponsor the project due to their love and passion to unearth, develop and market grassroots talents to become world champions.
She called on the youths and other football talents to avail themselves of the opportunity.
She added, “This is going to be continuous programme. We want to ensure that all clubs in Anambra state thrive.
“We want to discover and develop talents based at the grassroots and sponsor them to become international champions. This will also help to reduce unemployment and social vices.”
