Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has set up modalities to contend any form of security challenges within and outside the campuses for conducive teaching and learning as the university is set for reopening .
The Chief Security Officer of the University, Malam Ashiru T. Zango disclosed this to New Nigerian in response to the incident of kidnapping that occurred in the university recently.
He said that adequate measures have been taken to end such ugly incident and hoped that it will not happen again as there was arrest of suspects by the security operatives with investigation still ongoing.
Malam Ashiru Zango said that the university’s security personnel had a meeting with all the stakeholders, teaching and non-teaching staff on new security tips that will be used when the university reopens.
According to him, the university is yet to receive any reports from the security handling the case of kidnapping pertaining suspects under their custody.
The security challenges in the educational institution can be traced to two main factors and which are internal and external..
It would be recalled that on January 20, the Nigeria Police paraded a four-man kidnap gang who were allegedly terrorizing lecturers, students and other residents of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.
The principal suspects are Abubakar Yakubu, (A.K.A Dogo), who is a commercial motorcycle rider and Abubakar Aliyu (A.K.A. Abubakar Maigiwa) a security personnel with Ahmadu Bello University.
The two suspects live at Biye a community behind the main Campus of Ahmadu Bello University, Samaru Zaria.
The third suspect is Isiyaka Kabiru (A.K.A. Isiya Mugu), he also lives at Sabon Pegin Biye behind ABU Main Campus Samaru Zaria.
The suspect is accused of being the informant/agent.
While the fourth suspect is Aliyu Bello (A.K.A. Ali Siniya) who lives at Rafin Tukurwa behind ABU Phase II, around Kudingi.
He was also suspected of being an accomplice to the principal suspects.
While being paraded by the police, the principal suspects admitted that their team kidnapped three people from ABU.
They added that they do not know the names of their victims, but the victims include a mother with her son and a doctor.
They mentioned Sanusi, Maikudi, Shuaibu, as their collaborators.
He added that the collaborators reside in the bushes around Galadimawa.
He stated that the collaborators negotiated, collect ransom and released the kidnapped victims.
They also mentioned a traditional title holder of the Fulani’s at Biye community, some academic and non academic staff for being master minds of the crime.
However, the Chief Security Officer of the university said they was yet to receive official reports from the police, adding that he would comment on the matter when he received the police report.
He said the university would definitely take action against those that might be indicted by the police report.
