The Oyo State Police command is now investigating the 47 armed Fulani men arrested by men of the Oyo state joint security outfit, Operation Burst last Saturday at Ofiki river along Igangan- Tapa road in Ibarapa North local government area of the state.
New Nigerian learnt that the 47 gunmen were arrested in a convoy of buses on the Igangan- Tapa road while allegedly on a reprisal mission in the area when they reportedly rammed into the hands of security agents
Oyo State Police command Public Relations Officer (PPRO ), Chief Superintendent Gbenga Fadeyi said the arrested men are presently being investigated by tdetectives from the state Police command at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, in Ibadan.
The PPRO stressed that the 47 armed Fulani men were arrested by men of the Oyo State Joint Anti-Crime Security Patrol team Operation Burst and that all the suspected hoodlums were arrested with guns and other dangerous weapons in their possession
CSP Fadeyi maintained that the arrested 47 gunmen claimed that they were trailing some kidnappers who were about to collect ransom from relations of a kidnapped victim and that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, in Ibadan.
“Yes, the arrested Fulani men have been transfered to SCID Iyaganku, Ibadan for discreet investigation. Though, it was alleged that the Fulani men claimed they were trailing some kidnappers who were about to collect ransom from relations of a kidnapped victim.Investigation is intensified on the arrest, pls.”
New Nigerian recalled that Oyo state Chairman of Miyetti Allah, , Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar Jiji during a press conference in Ibadan on Monday stated that the arrested Fulani men are vigilante members, saying, “the 46 Vigilante members that were arrested have been useful for the state for many years. All the 46 Vigilantes are not criminals, they are the people arresting criminals”.
Alhaji Jiji added, ” even those criminals arrested by our men are with police as we speak. Thief is thief and not Fulani. Tribe is different from criminality. We are ready to work with Oyo state government to stop criminality in the state.”
