Nigeria’s COVID-19 Update: 1,544 New Cases, Total 97,478

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported that 1,544 new cases of Novel CoronaVirus disease (COVID-19) attacked twenty states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja on Friday 8th January 2021.
The list of names released by NCDC contained the following COVID-19-infested places: Lagos 739, Plateau 168, FCT 153, Oyo 91, Nasarawa 90, Rivers 80, Kaduna 35, Edo 33, Kano 29, Ogun 21, Delta 19, Sokoto 16, Akwa Ibom 11, Ebonyi 11, Enugu 10, Osun 10, Niger 9, Bauchi 8, Kebbi 8, Katsina 2 and Taraba 1.
As of 11.29 p.m. on 8th January 2021, Nigeria had a total of 97,478 confirmed cases of COVID-19 pandemic since the index case was reported in the country.
Out of the total, 78,552 people who contracted the global virus had been treated and discharged from Nigeria’s COVID-19 isolation centres, while the disease had claimed the lives of 1,342 persons in Nigeria since it entered the nation.
Data from NCDC indicated that COVID-19 killed 12 patients in Nigeria on Friday.
The federal disease control agency pointed out that its discharges on Friday included 264 community recoveries in Lagos State and 147 community recoveries in Plateau State managed in line with guidelines.
