A total number of 12 hoodlums, which include eight suspected armed robbers and four cultists have been arrested by police operatives in Lagos at the weekend.
This happened, as the Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu vowed to decimate cultism and armed robbery in the state.
Our correspondent gathered that two out of the robbery suspects were apprehended by Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives, led by its Commander CSP Yinka Egbeyemi, while on patrol in Lekki, in the early hours of Friday 1st January, 2021.
The suspects, identified as Hussein Hudu, 23, and Ibrahim Bello were said to be operating on a motorcycle as at the time of the arrest.
They were alleged to have connived with one Adamu Zango, 35, still at large, to viciously attacked and stabbed one Robert at the back around 4am on Friday, in a bid to dispossess him of his bag and mobile phones.
According to findings, preliminary investigation revealed that the trio connived, converged and lodged on Obalende Area, Lagos, in preparation for their robbery operation.
Two knives and one operational motorcycle with Registration Number AGL 808 QL were said to have been recovered from them.
Also, eight others which include three suspected cultists, five drug dealers and takers were said to have been picked up in an all-night patrol on new year eve at different locations within the state.
They include Kabiru Tajudeen, Ibrahim Hamed,.Elijah Ogbonna, Daniel Emmanuel, chukwuma Abiaza, Rafiu Kolawole, Ibrahim Ogundimu and Nwerrih Elvis.
In a related development, two suspected cultists were reportedly arrested by operatives attached to Akodo Division at Eleko beach.
Identified to be members of Aiye Confraternity, the suspects named Adegbenga Balogun, 25 and Temitope Yusuf, 24. were alleged to have attempted attacking their targets in the area on Saturday 2nd January, 2021 at 1pm.
One locally-made pistol with some live cartridges and some charms were said to have been recovered from them.
The police public relations officer SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi while confirming the report in a release said the Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu has ordered that the suspects be transferred to State CID, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation and prosecution.
The statement reads, ” The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State,CP Hakeem Odumosu, has again reiterated his commitment to get Lagos rid of armed robbers and cultists with the adoption of Community Policing strategies.
The police chief made the assertion today Saturday 2nd January, 2021, while dishing out instructions on Police Communication Network to officers and men of the command on the need to take the battle against armed robbery and cultism to their dens across the state.
While briefing the Commissioner of police on their achievements, the commander RRS CSP Yinka Egbeyemi and Divisional Police Officer, Akodo Division, Ajah, respectively informed that their teams arrested 10 suspected armed robbers and 2 Aiye Confraternity members at various locations in the state.
RRS operatives, led by the Commander RRS, on patrol in Lekki, in the early hours of Friday 1st January, 2021, arrested two suspected robbers operating on motorcycle and eight suspected criminals in their various hideouts. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered that the suspects be transferred to State CID, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation and prosecution.
CP Hakeem Odumosu reaffirms his zero tolerance for crimes and social vices, especially cultims which is the root of all violent crimes.
He further vows to take the battle to their dens and flush them out of Lagos State according to the provisions of the law. “No room for armed robbers and cultists in Lagos”.
