Nigeria’s Ridwan ‘Scorpion’ Oyekole, made good his promise of winning a world title belt for his country, Nigeria, when he won the vacant WBF international superfeatherweight title.
In a hard fought 10 rounds battle decided Sunday at the Prestigious, Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort Limited, Ibadan, Oyo State after recording unanimous points decision victory of 97~92, 98~91 and 98~91 against experienced Lucas Matias Montesino of Argentina to claim the belt. In the other supporting bouts, Olaide Fijabi Fijaborn successfully defended WABU Lightwealthertitle against Benjamin Lamptey of Ghana whom he knocked out in round 3 just as Akeem Sadiku recorded another third round knockouk over George Amusu of Cote d’Ivoire in their international supermiddle weight challenge contest with Oladeji Ige defeating Aminu Lucky boy Akintawo to retain his national batamweight titie. In the women category, Blessing Godwin beat her opponent, Abiola Olaleye by a 4th round knockout. Ridwan told Nigerian Pilot Sports that his dream is to hold the title for a long time even as he commended the sponsor of the fight and Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C) for making him realise his dream of being a world champion. President of NBB of C, Dr.Rafiu OLadipo while congratulating him promised that more world title fights will be staged in the country. He was full of praises for the CEO of Ilaji Hotel Resort Engr. Dotun Sanusi for sponsoring the fight with an appeal to corporate organisation to emulate him. Engr. Sanusi in his remarks explained that the decision to sponsor the fight was taken as a way of helping talented youths achieve their full potentials as well as encouraging to embrace sports and shun crime and other vices.
