President, Shitoryu Karate Associationno Nigeria (SKAN), Shihan Victor Akhimien has urged corporate bodies and governments at all levels to invest their resources on Karate to harness the enormous talents across the country.
Speaking at the end of the 2020 edition of the Vicamen Karate Kiddies championship in Lagos Akhimien noted that the Shitoryu association needed to work hard to take karate to greater heights.
The championship which was held in conjunction with Shitoryu Karate Association had over 50 participants aged from six to 20 years competing in different categories.
The 7th Dan black Belter, who said athletes get better when they take part in competitions, urged the federation to focus on developing athletes from the grassroots.
He added that the country would benefit more from equipping coaches through sponsorship to international coaching courses and training.
The one day competition saw athletes compete for honours in kata and kumite while the wheel chair karatekas also competed amongst themselves
The wheelchair Karatekas called on the sports ministry not neglect the plight of special athletes by provision of equipment needed to aid their growth in the sport
The participants commended the organisers of the tournament for the a job well done while also calling on corporate bodies to key into the vision of the association in churning out talented athletes who will do the nation proud at major events
Winners smiled home with medals , cash prizes and certificate of participation
