Lagos Govt Orders Immediate Closure Of Schools For Christmas, New Year Holidays

Lagos State Government has on Thursday ordered all schools in the state to on Friday December 18, 2020 commence vacation for the Christmas and the new year festive period.

The Director General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education, Mrs Abiola Seriki-Ayeni who released the statement to Journalists also gave the directive that all schools are to resume back on Monday 4th January, 2021 in compliance with the academic calendar harmonized by the Lagos state government.

According to the statement Mrs Ayeni said; “The Lagos States Government has directed public and private schools in the state to vacate on Friday 18th December, 2020.

“Therefore, all public and private schools below tertiary level in the state are to close for the Christmas and New Year holiday on that day. Schools are to resume back on Monday 4th January, 2021 in compliance with the Lagos State harmonized academic calendar.

“It is important to note that boarders are to resume on Sunday 3rd January, 2021 while academic activities commences immediately,”

Recall that in August, following the federal government directive, the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu had reopened all schools including tertiary institutions in the state after months of closure due to coronavirus pandemic outbreak in the country.
