As part of efforts to ensure smooth implementation and sustainability of the ongoing Gombe State University – Malam Inna Gully Erosion project under the State ministry of Environment and Forest Resources through the world bank project NEWMAP, the Focal NGO for NEWMAP in Gombe, Jewel Environmental Initiative, organized a 2-day capacity building workshop for school teachers and heads of the benefiting communities on environmental education.

This is in an effort to canvass their support for all segments of the project implementation especially on tree planting, waste management, pollution control, and climate change.
While declaring the capacity building workshop open, the state Commissioner of Environment and Forest Resources, Dr. Hussaina Goje, lauded Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for demonstrating commitment in addressing the environmental challenges facing the State as evident in the launching of his massive afforestation project of Gombe Goes Green (3G-project), and the payment of N500million counterpart funding to NEWMAP which climaxed into the signing of Gombe State University – Malam Inna Gully Erosion site.
She revealed that the remaining Gully Erosion sites approved by World Bank under NEWMAP would all be realised.
The Commissioner further assured the participants from the benefiting communities that government will pay compensation to all the affected communities before the civil work commences.
The Project Coordinators of NEWMAP/Gombe and the NEWMAP Focal NGO in their seperate addresses appreciated Governor Inuwa Yahaya and the Commissioner for Environment for their relentless commitment and tireless support in ensuring the success of the project.
Several papers will be presented during the capacity building programme holding at Amina Inuwa hall Gombe.
