As the world marks Human Rights Day, the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN) has sued for respect of every individuals belief in supporting reciprocal friendship that will engender building a great nation.
Country Director, Global Peace Foundation, Nigeria, Rev John Joseph Hayab expressed this in a statement he personally signed and made available to our correspondent.
“When we respect others’ beliefs, faiths, heritage and associations, we build a society whose core values support reciprocal friendships irrespective of differences supporting mutual respect and esteem for one another,” he said.
In the statement titled, “Building a great Nation through treating Citizens Equally” Hayab explained that the 10th of December every year is the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a day dedicated to the promotion of Human Rights.
“Accordingly, we, at Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), join well-meaning individuals and partners the world over to uphold the inalienable rights of people regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, or political disposition.
“As the UN theme for 2020 is Recover Better – Stand Up for Human Rights, governments, NGOs and all sundry should focus on the need to foster a peaceful society by ensuring that the fundamental human rights of everyone in society are recognized.
“As One Family Under God, we believe that society can only attain its common global goals if we create equal opportunities for all, observing boundaries, whether religious, cultural, origin, etc,” he stressed.
He further said that for every nation to make progress, it must apply human rights principles to halt any systematic, and intergenerational inequalities, which lead to exclusion and prejudice.
“Under the UN Human Rights’ call to “Stand Up for Human rights,’ GPFN’s main objective is for people in society to learn to respect boundaries as they go about their daily lives. Respecting the other person’s rights guarantees a world of mutual respect reinforced by the integrity of Human Rights Day that we celebrate.
“GPFN wishes you all a happy Human Rights Day,” the statement concluded.
