Secretary to the Oyo State Government’, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun on Thursday hinted that the state government is ready to put an end to open defacation in and across the state before 2025.
Mrs Adeosun who dropped this hint in Ibadan while declaring open a 5-day training workshop for 33 local government Desk Officers on Community-led Sanitation
She stressed that to achieve this, Oyo state government is set to put all efforts into ending the menace of open defecation in the state and that Oyo state would be the first to achieve the goal in the country,.
“We have set our own target to end this menace of open defecation and with what we have to day and the next four days in training and drive of the desk officers from the 33 local government areas, we assure the people that once again, Oyo State will set the pace among other States in stamping out the menace of open defecation.”, she said.
Mrs Adeosun maintained that Oyo state has always been known for taking the lead in good governance and human development, adding that the training was focused on changing the attitude of rural dwellers in the areas of hygiene and healthy living, adding that the present administration in the state “is poise to stamp out unhygienic behaviours that contributed to mortality among the rural populace.
The SSG while stressing that the workshop was a practical demonstration of community triggering efforts for early end to open defecation, assured that Oyo state government would continue to support Oyo RUWASSA to ensure that the aims and targets of the agency were achieved.
“It is very important to appreciate the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources as well as our sponsor, UNICEF for collaborating with Oyo State Rural Water Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) in fighting this battle, we shall continue to make them proud by doing our best in giving the people of the State healthy living environment,”.
The Chairman Oyo RUWASSA, Engr. Najeem Omirinde in his remark lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for his vision to provide an enabling environment for the people of the State to live and have prosper in their economic pursuit.
Engineer Omirinde then urged the people of the State to continue their support for the administration so as to be able to actualize an Oyo State which he said was the dream of the forefathers of the State.
