The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo has condemned the stealing of the tail part of the House of Assembly Mace by burglars, saying, the motive behind the act is yet unknown.
According to him, such a dastardly act will not affect the legislative activities of the Assembly.
Oluomo, told journalists that, the stolen Head of the mace, which contains the Coat of Arms has been recovered.
According to him, the motive of the unscrupulous elements remained unknown to the lawmakers.
He said that, the State Command of the Nigeria Police Force was already investigating the case to unravel the circumstance sorrounding the burglary.
“Well, I’m not suspecting anybody, I only see it as a theft, the police investigation will tell us what is it about. Fortunately, we are not sitting of recent, we are into budget session, which is more of committee sittings but I can assure you it won’t affect our sittings, when we are ready to sit, our mace will come up for sitting. It’s nothing to worry about”, the Speaker assured.
Meanwhile, Ogun State House of Assembly through its Committee on Lands and Housing has summoned the Oniraniken of Iranike (Elewu Oku), Oba Adewale Adeniji, to explain threat to life allegations leveled against him and invasion of Olumeru Adeyemi Sodiya Family land, Idarika Kanuyi Village through Agerige Village by Okerala farmland in Sagamu.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Damilola Soneye issued the summon, while engaging concerned members of the community on their petition against the monarch at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
He noted that the monarch, who had earlier declined two different invitations extended to him by the House Committee was given another opportunity to appear before the lawmakers on Thursday, 14th of January 2020, failure in which the Assembly would take further actions accordingly.
Soneye directed the monarch to produce all necessary documents including land title documents in his custody in relation to the landed property allegedly acquired forcefully through a court judgment.
In a related development, the Committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions led by its Vice Chairman, Hon. Akeem Balogun has invited the Management teams of Omo Sanni Property Consultant and Das-Field Properties to appear on 22nd December, 2020 and 24th January, 2021 respectively, for further interaction on the acquired landed property of the deceased husband of Mrs. Abigeal Solarin at Alaketu Village in Ogijo.
According to Balogun, the invitation became imperative to sort out issues with the land agents in relation to the refund on the landed properties to the wife of the deceased.
