Except the Federal Ministry of Education swiftly intervenes in the ongoing process of appointing  new Vice Chancellor for the Federal University Oye (FUOYE) Ekiti State, crisis of an unimaginable magnitude may soon engulf  the  University.
New Nigerian investigations revealed that as at present, tension is mounting among the various stakeholders in the University over the selection process which they have all described as heavily compromised in favour of a particular candidate said to be  from another University.
It was alleged that the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the University and some Principal officers of the institution  are purportedly circumventing the procedure in order to ensure the emergence of their favoured candidate as the new Vice Chancellor
Our findings shows that the institution which had earlier shortlisted nine candidates made up of  three internal and six external candidates later placed another advertisement for more interested candidates to apply, and that in the process of a purported  controversial shortlisting exercise four external members of the Council excused themselves .
At the controversial process purportedly attended by the out going Vice Chancellor an internal candidate who came third in the initial short-listing was ranked sixth and the initial seventh now became 3rd while the initial first and second are now tied as first and that the arrangement is said to have angered the stakeholders in the institution, describing it  as unacceptable since according to them ” is fundamentally flawed and tainted with lack of transparency.” Amidst this, a youth group , Ekiti Youth Agenda has called on  the Minister for Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu to swiftly halt the on going selection process of the selection of a new Vice Chancellor
Ekiti Youth Agenda  in a statement signed by its President, Comrade Oludayo Ige, further demanded that the incumbent Vice Chancellor should be excused from the selection process, adding that the Minister cannot claim ignorance of the unfolding macabre dance in the University
EYA in the statement stressed that, four of the five external members of the Council including the representative  of Ministry of Education have excused themselves from the  process as a result of the alleged way and manner the management is going about the selection process.“We are watching with keen interest, the unfolding events in FUOYE. We will not close our eyes and allow these desperate and highly biased individuals to destroy the image of the University because of their selfish interests.  We learnt on good authorities that the VC and the Registrar want to continue to control the IGR of the institution hence they want their stooge to become the VC”, it said
EYA emphasized in the statement pointed out that “all the Unions in the institution(ASUU, SSANU and NASU ) have called on the appropriate authorities to pay close attention to what is happening in the University to curb the  impunity and  high handedness of some individuals who are bent on destroying  the future of the institution.”
