The deplorable state of Calabar-Itu road linking Akwa Ibom and Cross River states has negatively affected the economic inputs and outputs of many businesses operating in Niger Delta region, they are therefore, appealing for federal government’s urgent intervention.
Managing Director of Champions Breweries Plc, Mr Georgios Polymenakos said the company has found it difficult to transport its products to Cross River State and others because of the condition of the road.
Polymenakos appealed to the federal government to please intervene by reconstructing the road in order to take away the heavy burden that Champion Breweries and other companies have gone through in transporting their products through the road.
Mr. Polymenakos made the call while receiving members of University of Uyo Senior Staff Club who were in his office over the weekend in Uyo to confer award of excellence on him for quality job delivery.
“We appeal to the Federal Government to intervene on Calabar-Itu road, because the road is affecting our business operations with Cross River and other states”.
The Managing Director, who narrated his ordeal whenever he travels the road, said it affects his health condition.
Meanwhile, the Company has announced its decision to recruit best graduating students in a bid to increase human capital development which is part of it corporate social responsibility.
The organisation, which will soon commence full clinical services for their staff said the company is already giving free medical service and treatment to staff and relations.
On his part, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr Elijah Akpan who also received award of excellence from senior staff club of University of Uyo, said the company would diversify its production, adding that it remains the only independent breweriy in the country.
Champion Breweries located in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, is an enterprising brewery and beverage production company which has offered both skilled and unskilled employment to many people in Niger Delta region as well as contributed to the economy.
