The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Wukari in Taraba State, Prof. Abubakar Kundiri said since he assumed office five years ago, he has sent over 50 Phd holders for training abroad and at home.
Kundiri, who stated this through a telephone interview on Wednesday with our Correspondent in Jalingo, said that the installation was one of the first set of twelve Universities established by the Federal Government of Nigeria between 2010 and 2011.
” When i was appointed as the V.C of the University, there were no real physical infrastructures that qualified it to be called a University.
He noted that, one infrastructure that stood tall in the University was a good road network, saying that when he assumed as V.C, he took it upon him myself to invest mainly in the construction of roads.
According to him, he did not pay attention to building the real physical infrastructure that make up or characterize a University.
“So, what i told myself and members of my management was that we must reach out to both government (through TETFund) and major stakeholders in the state that were both at home and in the diaspora to solicit for their support” Kundiri added.
He further explained that his effort has today turned the university into a construction site as massive infrastructural projects are currently ongoing in the institution.
The Vice Chancellor maintained that on assumption of office he came out with a Medium-Term Strategic Plan to guide in terms of growth in the university.
“”And this led to the full accreditation of all 27 undergraduate programmes of the institution” said Kundiri.
He noted that the steady and uninterrupted growth in the University, has greatly boost the economic activities of the Wukari Local government area of the state.
He informed that the University at the moment has 925 academic staff which comprises of 31 Professors, 34 Readers, 44 Senior Lecturers, 137 Lecturer 1, 106 Lecturer II, 166 Assistant Lecturers and 407 Graduate Assistants.
