The University of Ibadan Senate on Monday elected the Institution’s current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) , Prof. Adebola Ekanola as the Acting Vice Chancellor for the University.
Also, the Senate after the election, recommended Prof Ekanola to the Governing Council of the University for endorsement as the Acting Vice-chancellor
During the election presided over by the Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. Olayinka Omigbodun, at the International Conference Centre of the university, Professor Ekanola scored 275 votes beat other four contestants.
In the election, Professor Ayo Oluleye polled 80 votes, the current Deputy Vice-chancellor (Research, Innovation and Partnerships), Professor Olanike Adeyemo polled 13 votes, Professor Adigun Agbaje scored 15, while Professor Gbemisola Oke polled 14 votes.
A total of 400 votes were casted during the election with 337 being valid.
New Nigerian gathered that following the election of Prof Ekanola as the Acting Vice Chancellor, the University Governing Council is expected to ratify the election for him to act for the next six months and midwife the process of selecting of a substantive VC for the University.
It will be recalled that the tenure of the University’s outgoing Vice Chancellor,Prof Abel Idowu Olayinka expired on Monday, November, 30.
