Be Civil In Dealings With Members Of Public, IGP Adamu Tells Police

Inspector General of Police, Mr. Muhammad Abubakar Adamu on Thursday asked officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to be civil in their dealings with members of the public in the course of carrying out their constitutional duties.

Addressing officers and men of the Oyo state Police Command at Eleyele headquarters of the command in Ibadan, the Inspector General also tasked them not to allow the recent EndSARS protest discouraged them .
The Inspector General of Police declared that his visit to the Oyo State Police command “is a One – Day Post EndSARS walking and Operational visitation tour to the state force Headquarters. 
“We are here in respect to what happen as a result of EndSARS protest, it started as Fake News in Ugheli, Delta State after police on patrol accosted 2 people who parked their vehicle in a suspicious manner”, he said.
IGP Adamu added, “one of them fell from the car and slumped while a passerby recorded the video claiming a police killed someone in Ughelli and it spread across the country”.
The Inspector General of Police noted  that the EndSARS protests started as a peaceful protest by Nigerians who gave five conditions and that the Police gave the aggrieved citizens maximum protection and security before the protest was hijacked by hoodlums.
He stated that “the request to #EndSARS started since 2015, “, the Inspector General of Police said although it is an inevitable section, past administration reformed but we have dissolve it”, but that it was unfortunate that the “protesters refused to leave the street after the conditions have been met because their sponsors are not satisfied with their aims.”
The Inspector General of Police then cautioned  that carrying of arms is not for decoration or to kill but to protect and refrain further from act of criminality except there is substantial need.,
Speaking further, the Inspector General of Police hinted that government have promised to compensate policemen who lost their lives during the protest and their families.
In his address, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police,  CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu lauded the Inspector General of Police adding that his visit to the Oyo State Police Command almost immediately after the EndSARS protest was timely, morale booster and rare privilege which the command is eternally grateful of.
He assured that the loyalty of the Oyo State Police Command to continuous protection of lives and properties in the Ibadan and other axis of Oyo state remains unshaken commended IGP Adamu for his utmost commitment towards bringing down the act of crime and criminalities to the barest minimum in and across the country.
