Founder of Haven Initiative, Mrs Omotayo Adebayo on Thursday tasked parents to devote more time to the education and welfare of their children especially those in school.
Mrs Adebayo gave the task while speaking at the Educational Resettlement for Indigent Children in commemoration of World Day Prevention of Violence against Children and Universal Children’s Day held at Ebenezer primary school, Okepadre, Ibadan.
At the programme exercise books, Textbooks , school bags, school sanders, Uniforms and writing materials among others worth over N500,000 were donated to selected primary school pupils from Abebi community by the Aderogun Abebi Ariyibi foundation in conjunction with the Haven Initiative.
According to Mrs Adebayo, the gesture was to assist and encourage the selected pupils in their education career as part of the foundation’s contribution and give back to the development of education in Abebi community.
The Founder Haven Initiative stressed that with the good gestureof the Ariyibi foundation, there is the need for the parents of the benefiting pupils to be ready to play their own roles to serve as complimentary to that of the foundation’s.
In doing this, Mrs Adebayo stressed that the time has come for the parents on their part to create adequate time for their children, saying, “as parents, the time is now for us to rise up and focus more on the welfare and well being of our children.”
“As parents, we should create time for our children, we should be monitoring their progress in schools. We should make friends with our children especially the females. We as parents should be our children’s friends, we should be more concerned about them”, she said.
The Founder Haven Initiative then warned against all forms of child abuse particularly using children of school ages for hacking when they are supposed to be in school, adding that doing so will attract N500,000 fine or 5years imprisonment.
Mrs Adebayo then urged the pupils to make good use of the items particularly the textbooks, saying, all these textbooks here are for you to read, it is not to be kept somewhere else. She also advised them to make good use of the opportunity so as to enable others to benefit from the foundation in the subsequent years.
In her goodwill message, the Head of Schools Services, Ibadan North West, Mrs Oduola lauded Haven Initiative for the proper coordination of the programme as well as considering schools in the local government for the opportunity.
