The Chairman, Technical Committee on Foreign Direct Investments in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Gabriel Ukpeh has tasked journalists to maintain the template of objectivity and fairness in their reportage.
Ukpeh gave the charge while playing host to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), 2020 ‘Press Week’ Planning Committee in his office on Tuesday.
He stressed the need for NUJ to closely monitor the activities of its members to ensure that every practitioner practice within the professional detects of journalism to guarantee peace and development of the society.
Mr. Ukpe noted that news reporting needs to be monitored and censored before they are published so as to strengthen the channels for effective communication with emphasis on objectivity and fairness to all parties concerned.
Ukpeh who is a technocrat noted the roles of journalists as another major players in the development of any society, and charged them to place more emphasis on reports that will attract more investments into the State and the nation at large.
Earlier, the members of the Planning Committee led by the Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John said, the purpose of the visit was to intimate Mr. Ukpe on the activities of the upcoming press week and to seek areas of partnership.
The Committee Chairman, described Mr. Ukpeh as a creative leader of note who has proven successes in private and corporate governance.
He lauded him for his decision to partner the Union toward ensuring the success at the planned 2020 Press Week in the state.
