The Zamfara State House of Assembly has said that it is working to enact laws to enhance social protection activities in the state.
This was disclosed by the Director Legal Services of the House, Barrister Nasiru Abdullahi Jangebe at the quarterly feedback meeting on Social Protection with Civil Society Organisations (CSO) and Media organised by Save the Children International (SCI).
Jangebe added that almost all the bills passed into law by the assembly have direct bearing to the lives of the people of the state especially the vulnerable groups and less privileged.
“As we all know, the assembly had recently passed bill for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Skills Acquisition bill into Laws as part of lawmakers commitment to the development of the state,” he said.
He assured that as a member of the Zamfara Social Protection Platform (ZSPP), he will ensure all bills related to Social Protection currently before the House are given adequate attention and treated promptly by the lawmakers.
The Advocacy and Communication Officer of SCI in charge of Child Development Grant Programme (CDGP) Strengthening Social Protection System, Malam Nura Muhammad Abdullahi said the aim of the meeting is to provide implementation frame work for the social protection activities in the state.
Muhammad added that with the signing of the Social Protection Policy documents by the state government, the SCI through the CDGP will still continue to support the platform and state government to actualise the Social Protection activities in the state.
“The SCI through the CDGP will continue to engage the CSOs and the Media to ensure that Social Protection is attained and sustained in the state,” he said.
He said Social Protection is meant to safeguard the less privileged and the vulnerable and still give respite to the wealthy hence the need for it in the society.
Earlier, the Chairman ZSPP, Malam Nasiru Usman Biyabiki commended the members of the platform for their contributions to the development of Social Protection activities in the state.
Biyabiki commended the state government for signing the Social Protection Policy document which is being supported by the SCI through the CDGP.
