The Zamfara State College of Education (COE) Maru, has been fully accredited by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).
This was disclosed by the Provost of the College, Dr Ibrahim Usman Gusau while interacting with journalists in Gusau the Zamfara State capital.
The Provost said the full accreditation of the institution by the NCCE was as a result of governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle’s commitments to revamp the education sector in the state.
He said with the full accreditation of 20 courses and interim accreditation of 3 courses by the NCCE, the 20 years old state owned institution can now compete with its contemporaries in any part of the country.
“English, Hausa and Arabic language courses got interim accreditation due to the fire outbreak which burnt the language laboratory but as soon as work is completed on the laboratory, we will reapply for full accreditation of the courses,” he assures.
The Provost added that the NCCE also gave full institutional accreditation to the Registry, Bursary, Library, Students Hostels, Estate and ICT centre.
Dr Usman said governor Matawalle’s desire is to make the institution centre of academic excellence not only in the north west but in the country.
“Governor Matawalle’s vision for COE Maru is to make the institution become one of the best College of Education in the country and with the full accreditation of the course, we are determined to achieve that,” he assures.
The Provost hinted that the institution will soon begin degree programmes in affiliation with the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria and the Usman Danfodio University (UDUS) Sokoto as the institution have the required manpower to run the degree programmes as stipulated by the National University Commission (NUC).
“Presently we have 40 PhD holders with 30 others in view and also have 80 master degree holders with 40 others Master degree in view,” he said.
The call on prospective students to apply to the institution as the institution will mould their character to become future leaders.
He called on corporate organizations and wealthy individuals to complement government efforts by constructing and donating infrastructures such as classrooms,hostels and boreholes to the educational sector.
“Government alone cannot therefore the need for wealthy individuals to assist in providing some infrastructures in tertiary institutions to make the students have conducive learning environment,” he said.
