The ongoing Novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has provided opportunities for governments at all levels to restructure and reset their health agenda and standards.
Nigeria’s Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, said this at Bauchi State Health Summit on Monday.
The topic of the summit is: “Optimizing the Healthcare System in Bauchi State.”
“We have leveraged the impacts of the pandemic to drive upgrade of the health sector. For instance, Nigeria now has over 60 functional public health laboratories equipped for biocontainment and biosafety level,” Ehanire highlighted.
He pointed out that their mission in the health ministry, as custodians of population health, is to build a health system that guarantees universal access to comprehensive, appropriate, affordable, efficient, equitable and quality essential healthcare for Nigerians.
The minister of health commended Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed for putting together the stakeholder’s health summit, and for all the achievements made so far in the health sector and other sectors in the state.
“I also want to extend my sincere appreciation to our agencies and partners here present for their immense contribution to the health sector,” Ehanire said.
