The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has described last weekend’s Local Government elections in the state as a cheat designed by the PDP-led government to deprive the people their constitutional rights of franchise and democratic freedom.
APC said that as a political party, it totally dissociates itself from what it termed as broad-day robbery of the peoples’ mandate, hence it shall within the confines of the law, strive to restore the said mandate as soon as practicable.
The party in a press statement signed by its Bauchi state chairman, Uba Ahmed Nana, noted that its members were properly mobilized and they massively voted for the APC candidates whom, he said, apparently won at all levels, had the elections been concluded.
“However, having entertained the fear and torment of losing the elections, the PDP Government surreptitiously wrote figures as purported results upon which they declared their candidates as purported winners/appointees to be sworn-in as chairmen and councilors across Bauchi state”.
Nana Added, “When in fact, the actual votes cast and valid results from the polling units were discountenanced in the final declaration. The PDP Government has created a monster that is alien in the political and democratic history of Bauchi state”.
Alhaji Uba Ahmed Nana said that it is unfortunate that some security personnel were used by the PDP and BASIEC in making false declaration of winners based on unlawful results.
“The security personnel provided cover and aided them in the entire process, while the APC members and the electorates were busy complying with the electoral process at the polling units and collation centres”.
Alhaji Nana said that the APC has rejected in totality the purported results and declaration of winners of the Local Government elections as effected by the PDP and Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC).
According to him, any person sworn-in to office based on the unlawful PDP/BASIEC results shall be occupying the seat illegally and without the support of his people, saying the APC will not go to Election Tribunal for fear that it will not get justice.
Nana therefore called on security outfits in the state to respect their constitutional role of protecting lives and property without bias or relegating themselves as useful tools in the hands of Governor for victimization and oppression of APC members.
The APC urged its members and stakeholders to remain law abiding as it shall do everything possible within the confines of the law to restore its mandate by the special grace of God.
