The Ogun Assembly on Thursday confirmed Former president, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhaji Waheed Odusile and the Vice Chancellor, Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) as State commissioners for Information and Education respectively.
Hon Yusuf Sherif (APC -Ado Odo Ota 1) who is the Majority Leader of the house, presented report of the House committee on selection on the screening of the Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s nominees during plenary in Abeokuta.
Honestly Sherif disclosed that the curriculum vitae and credentials of the two nominees were scrutinised and found suitable for the job.
According him, members interviewed the nominees and in the course of the interview, it came to the fore that Arigbabu who is the current Vice chancellor of TASUED was indicted by the state audit report submitted to the House Public Account committee.
” Relying on the legal presumption of innocence which states that an individual is considered innocence until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
“The committee found Arigbabu eligible and suitable along with Odusile to assume the office of commissioner in the state.
“If, however, the public account and anti corruption committee found anyone guilty of any misdemeanor, such a person, no matter the post occupied in the state will be invited to undergo necessary legislative scrutiny and penalties.
“The committee therefore recommended the screened nominees for the confirmation as commissioner in the state in consonance with the provision of section 192 subsection 2 of the 1999 constitution ,” he said.
The majority leader ,thereafter, moved the motion for the adoption of the report while it was seconded by Sylvester Abiodun (PDP -Ijebu North 1).
Mr Olakunle Oluomo (APC–Ifo1), the Speaker, said that the nominees were confirmed for appointment, saying that the governor could go ahead to swear them in.
