Kaduna State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hajiya Halima Lawal has expressed confidence that beneficiaries of Agro Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support (APPEALS) Project have done very well and will make good harvest.
She stated this at Yaskwake Cluster in Zaria Local Government Area where she led stakeholders in the implementation of the project in Kaduna State on the assessment visit to maize farms.
The Commissioner said from what they saw at various farms in the cluster were six farmer groups made the cluster it is encouraging.
She however, advised farmers to report any case or problems they discover or observe during the period farming to the extension staff for quick solution.
Hajiya Halima Lawal also commended women for participating in the farming activities and are competing favourably with their male counterparts.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator APPEALS Dr. Yahaya Aminu said there is still a chance for more groups to join the projects.
Dr. Yahaya Aminu said the project is ongoing and they are targeting 10.000 farmers to benefit from the APPEALS Projects in Kaduna State.
He said the visit has given them the courage that farmers can harvest 45 bags of Maize per hectare as against the 20 bags they are getting in a hectare.
In his address, the Sarkin Yaskwake Alh. Saidu Aminu appealed to the commissioner to build an earth dam for dry season farming in the area as they are fully involved in farming activities all round the year.
