The Area Commander, Area "J" Police Command Lagos, ACP Olugbemi Gbolahan has given a bit by bit account of how he sustained a fatal injury when one of the protesters during the EndSARS protest in Lagos ran over his leg with a car.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday during the protest in Ajah area of the state.
According to a release by the police public relations officer SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Area Commander, an Assistant Commissioner of Police was on ground to personally monitor and provide security for the protesters when the accident happened.
The police image maker said the protester wilfully drove his car, hit him and ran over him, adding that Olugbemi is receiving treatment at a hospital in Ajah area.
Speaking with our correspondent in a telephone chat, the Area Commander confirmed the incident, adding that he was saved by divine grace.
Olugbemi noted that the injury would have been more devastating if not for being gallant
His words, " My brother, it was God that saved me, I would have lost the leg if not that I was wearing a boot.
The driver just targeted at and crushed my leg. As I fell down, I quickly turned off and rolled to the other side of the road. If not, the leg would have been condemned".
However, the police public relations officer assured that the command will not be distracted from doing the right thing at the right time, just as he urged the protesters to be calm and orderly.
