The Zaria Palliatives Care Association in collaboration with Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) management have observed the World Palliatives Care Day Celebration 2020.
Speaking to newsmen on the day, the Chairman Zaria Palliatives Care Association, Professor N.Y Maitama said the aim of the association is to communicate that together every person impacted by a life limiting illness can influence their policy makers to prioritize palliatives care.
Professor Maitama said even the general public can join the association in order to improve the care services and to bring comfort to patients and the people supporting them in this era of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Chairman also said that holistic palliatives care approach is the only way to ensure the theme of this year, “ My Care, my Comfort and the sub-theme is, “My Care, My Comfort in the COVID-19 pandemic era can be further explained.
Also to raise the level of awareness and understanding of palliatives care needs of the people living with life limiting illness to provide support to them and their families.
Professor Maitama said, their mission is to sensitize the general public on the existance of the association in Zaria and the entire Zazzau Emirate as well to involve the press in the campaign on the need and care of patients.
“Also to mobilize resources in cash and kind for the care of patients with life threatening or terminal illnesses.”
