Disaster Management Experts Meet In Abuja, Honour Babandede

Experts on Disaster Management and Safety Science have met in Abuja, where issues of disaster and safety management were extensively discussed and the way forward.
The Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) was also conferred with an award of “ICON OF EXCELLENCE” by the experts, who are members of the Institute of Disaster Management and Safety Science.
Speaking at the occasion, Babandede lauded the Board members and facilitators of the Institute for their efforts in driving Disaster and Safety Managers to work round the clock during the out break of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
He noted that the efforts of the disaster managers helped the country to come out stronger, addng that the lessons learnt by other nations from the Nigerian model of control, helped reduced the spread of the pandemic at the height of it.
Babande used the occasion to charge NIS Operatives at the Border frontiers to be vigilant and alert while keeping the borders closed in compliance with the government directive. 
The NIS boss similarly reminded Nigerians and Non Nigerians of the Closure of land Borders, which is still in force until counter directive from the federal government.
The Service National Public Relations Officer, DCI Sunday James in a release, said Babandede was honoured for putting in place  Migration Management and Border Management to guarantee Safe Border as the lead agency in Border Security, with about 27,000 workforce in Zonal, State and Special Commands, Divisional and Area offices,Patrol bases spread across 36 States and FCT, 774 Local Government in the Country, 52 Missions abroad and other special formations.
According to the release, migration if not properly manage through a secured border has the ability to aggravate the spread of Covid-19 by International travellers and locals who crosses the borders for economic, socio-cultural, tourism, religious and other mandatory activities that necessitates travels and Migration.

It reads, ” The Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service Muhammad Babandede MFR was conferred with an award of “ICON OF EXCELLENCE” as the Comptroller General of a service with about 27,000 workforce in Zonal, State and Special Commands, Divisional and Area offices,Patrol bases spread across 36 States and FCT, 774 Local Government in the Country, 52 Missions abroad, Other special formations i. e Airports, Seaports , Land Border frontiers, Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in 14 locations along the flanks of Nigerian Borders, Area Offices put in place  Migration Management and Border Management to guarantee Safe Border as the lead agency in Border Security.
With this number of workforce Health and Safety Science is vital to keeping the workforce safe and healthy to deliver maximally and effectively in those formations where the service witnesses massive turnout of passengers, applicants for one facility or the other.          
The Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service award of “ICON OF EXCELLENCE” by the Institute of Disaster Management and Safety Science is well deserved considering the Safety and Healthy Environment put in place during the lockdown and now with the gradual ease of the lockdown by the government, the multiplicity of tasks to be undertaken at the approved International Airports after the lifting of ban on International flights and commencement of flight operations, which has the ability to increase requests for travel documents such as the International passport by Nigerians and visas by Non Nigerians to enter Nigeria for diverse purposes.
