Key policy makers and stakeholders of sports from the North West Zone have applauded the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development over concerted efforts at revamping the sector through constructing and renovation of facilities in the country.
The commendation was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of North-West states Directors Of Sports and Zonal Sports Co-ordinator’s Meeting held at the Conference-hall of JA’IZ Hotel and Guests Palace Gusau, Zamfara State on October 3, 2020.
According to the communique jointly signed by Zonal Coordinator, North-West Zone, Idris Abdullahi and Chairman, North West Zone,Directors of Sports, Nalado Iro Kankiya made available to newsmen on Wednesday October 7, 2020, the efforts are making Nigeria to take it’s pride of place in the sector internationally.
“The meeting expresses joy and happiness on the declining rate of the numbers of COVID- 19 infectious persons in our dear nation Nigeria which is attributed to the general commitment and dedication of policies and programmes embarked upon by the Federal Government that are bringing life and its endeavours to normalcy including sports and related activities under the able and competent leadership of President Mohammadubuhari, GCFR.
“Commends the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development under the Highly Technical and Tactical Honorable Minister, Mr. Sunday Dare, the result oriented Permanent Secretary, Mr. Gabriel Tanimu Aduda and the wealth of experienced directors for viable sports and related policies and programmes that are characterizing Nigeria in comparable with other international sporting nations through innovations, digitalization, repairs, renovations, reconstruction and constructions of sporting arenas,” it said.
The meeting which recorded the participation of six states Directors of Sports, three states Athletics Chairmen and one Representative, the representative of President, Nigerian Volleyball Federation, the Director-General, Directorate of Sports Development Zamfara State and three Principal Staff of the Zonal Sports Office including the Zonal Sports Co-ordinator, also resolved to fastrack sports development in the zone.
“At the end of deliberation, the meeting unanimously resolved as follows:Expressed its sincere appreciation to His Excellency, Alhaji Dr.
bello Muhammad, Matawallen Maradun, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State virile policies and programmes that aregreatly touching the lives of the citizenry and efforts put in place by his government on youth, sports, facilities and related development.
“Thanked the Directorate of Sports Development Zamfara State andComrade, Jamilu Aliyu, Zannan Gusau, Kachallan Hausa, the North-West representative on the Board of Athletics Federation of Nigeria for their General Support and assistance for the fourth-quarter meeting,” it added.
The stakeholders felicitated with Commarade, Jamilu Aliyu, Zannan Gusau, Kachallan Hausa on his coronation (Turbaning) as the District-Head of Karal, Zamfara State.
They further lauded their Zonal Representatives on the boards ofCricket, Volleyball, Taekwondo, Weight-Lifting and Boxing Federations for their ardent commitment and dedication to the growth and development of the sector at states, zone and national levels.
They confirmed to the Zonal Sports Office and hitherto the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development that lessons learnt at the COVID-19 Awareness/Sensitization lectures were duly imparted to their staff at various states sports councils and strict protocols and practices of safety measures are being put into practice.
Assured the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Developments of their readiness to participate at the National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged “Edo-2020” and the National Youth Games tagged “ILORIN 2020”.
Similarly, they agreed to participate at the Kaduna State International Mini-Marathon tagged “Lets Run Together” on the 21st of November, 2020.
“Committed in participation at the Zonal Sports Office proposed programmes in the following sports/games and related activities i.e U-17 Table Tennis Championship schedule for Kano, Kano State under the sponsorship of Honorable Ishaku Tikon, the North-East Zonal Representative and President, Nigerian Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Zonal Sports Office.
“U-18 Volley Ball and Beach Volley Ball Championship scheduled for Kaduna State under the Sponsorship of Engineer, (Dr) Musa Nimrod, the North-West Zonal Representative and President, Nigerian Volleyball Federation, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Zonal Sports Office.
“Seminar/Workshop on the Development of Weight-Lifting Game scheduledfor Katsina, Katsina State and designed for Coaches/AssociationsSecretaries, Primary Schools and Secondary Schools GamesMasters/Mistresses and host state local government areas sports officers/secretaries in addition to military and para-military sports officers under the sponsorship of Alhaji Babangida Hussaini(Walin Kazaure), the Chairman, Jigawa State Weight-Lifting Association and North-West Zonal Representative on the Boardof Weight-Lifting Federation of Nigeria, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Developments and the Zonal Sports Office.
“U-17 Soccer Championship tagged “North-West Zone late Sir,Ahmadu Bello, Sardaunan Sokoto and Premier of Northern-Nigeria” under the Zonal Sports Office.
“Postpone Planned Capacity Building/Programme in the games of athletics, boxing and trado-sports to the 1st & 2nd Quarter of Year 2021.
“In Sha Allah (God-Willing).Kebbi State to Host National Youth Games-Zonal Teams (Non contact)Sports eliminations, while Sokoto State to be be on stand-by.
“Proposed Zonal Sports office Programme on Week End Sports Academy for Selected Sports/Games postponed to the 1st Quarter of Year 2021.
“States to submit to the Zonal Sports Office their comprehensive reports on sports facilities and related activities for the year 2020 with a view for planning awards to states chief executives in December.
“North-West Zonal Representatives on the boards of various sports federations were appealed to be active and proactive to make viable impact on their federations/associations at states and the zonal level.
“Communication Link I.e WhatsApp will be created for the major zonal stakeholders i.e Honourable Commissioners of Sports, Special Advisers on Sports, all zonal representatives on the boards of various sports federations within the zone, Directors of Sports and the Zonal Sports Coordinator with a view for Information dissemination and ease of communication.
“States Sports Councils to complement the efforts of the Zonal Sports Office in terms of conduct of sports and related activities based on collective responsibilities and end results i.e sustainable growth and development of sports and related activities within the zone,” the communiqué added.
