Seven months into lockdown, schools in Niger State are now allowed to reopen according to the state government.
All schools across the state were ordered shut in late March this year following outbreak of the COVID -19 in the country.
Commissioner of Education in the state, Hannatu Jibril Salihu said on Monday at a media briefing in Minna that the state government has okayed the resumption of all schools and places of learning including faith based schools such as Islamic schools, Tsangaya and Islamiyya schools.
The commissioner however warned that all managements of schools must ensure strict compliance to all protocol of the disease.
The state government has fixed Sunday, 4th, October, 2020 resumption dates for students in boarding schools in both public and private schools across the state.
Ahead of the resumption date, the state government has asked all teachers to return to their respective schools from tomorrow, 29th September, 2020 to prepare for the resumption of schools and classes.
Students in all Junior Secondary Schools, (JSS) 1 and 2 are to attend morning session and those in Senior Secondary Schools, (SS) classes 1 and 2 are to attend evening session as part of measures to guard against the dreaded Covid-19 disease in schools.
The commissioner further explained that pupils in all public primary schools from classes 1 to 3 are to attend morning sessions while those in classes 4 to 6 are to attend evening sessions.
All private senior and junior secondary schools and primary schools are to reopen and operate in line with COVID-19 protocols.

The commissioner ordered that the next academic calendar for the 2020/2021 academic session is to commence on 3rd January, 2021.
The state Ministry of Education according to the commissioner has put in place monitoring teams at all levels to ensure compliance to measures against the Covid-19 disease.
The commissioner warned all management of schools to ensure physical distance in all classes by students and pupils during classes and play time.
The students are to educated on preventive protocol of the disease as the Ministry would not hesitate to order the closure of any school found wanting the commissioner added further.
