The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State during the 2019 general election, Chief Adebayo Adelabu on Thursday said the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration in Oyo State has not done anything significant in office in the last over one year.
Addressing a press conference in Ibadan to herald in activities lined up to mark his 50th birthday anniversary, the APC governorship candidate declared that the present situation in Oyo state is like there is no government in place in the state.
Chief Adelabu stressed that with the situation in Oyo state particularly with the unity now returning to APC, it is certain that Governor Makinde and the ruling party in the state would be dislodged from the state come 2023.
The APC Chieftain pointed out that if not for the 2019 coalition of parties against him and the APC, then, there was no way Engineer Makinde would have won the governorship election, adding that with the collapse of the coalition that produced him as the governor, there is no doubt in the fact that Engr Makinde is on his way out of office come 2023.
According to Chief Adelabu, now, it will be very easy to dislodge the governor and his ruling party, saying, “I lost the last governorship election to the coalition of political parties. It was the result of the coalition that dislodged APC.” .
“The coalition is no longer there today. The coalition is no more, it has collapsed . You won’t see it until 2023. “As at now with the collapse of the coalition, it will now be the issue of individual popularity. Baba Ladoja, Senator Lanlehin and others have left the coalition, if you removed the votes of others in the coalition from Makinde’s votes then, if we contested on individual platform, Seyi Makinde would have come third”, he said.
Chief Adelabu added that another factor that would work in favour of the APC come 2023 will be the “poor performance of the present administration of Engineer Seyi Makinde, adding,,”with over one year in office, this government has not done anything significant in office”
Speaking further, the APC Chieftain stressed that his governorship ambition “is still alive and will never died”, saying, “my interest in contesting the governorship race is still existing and it will never died”.
Commenting on the 2019 governorship election in Oyo state, Chief Adelabu disclosed that he was happy losing the election, as he is now wiser politically and understand politics better .
“I am happy that I did not become the governor in 2019. It made me to be wiser, to get closer to party leadership and structure. Now, I am at the driver’s seat, I am now wiser when it comes to politics”.
