Akwa Ibom State Government has unveiled the official logo, emblem, flag and anthem of the state as part of the activities to mark the 33rd anniversary of her creation.
The official adoption of the logo and anthem was done at the banquet hall, Government house, Uyo on Wednesday.
Winners of the official symbol contest were Nsikak John who designed the state flag, Dr Iberedem Iwok who came up with the state anthem and Mboutidem Ukpe who designed the official coat of arm for the state.
Speaking at the unveiling of the symbols, Governor Udom Emmanuel applauded the 900 Akwa Ibom persons who took part in the contest to bring about the symbols for the state and also appreciated the State House of Assembly of speedily passing of a law to give legal backing to the state’s identity.
“We have made history that it was in our time that this was done. This may have been long overdue but its Gods time. We must inculcate in our generation that element of boldness” Governor Emmanuel said
It would be recalled that the State House of Assembly on Tuesday’s plenary passed into law, the bill to establish the state owned official symbols and other matters connected therewith.
The bill was last Thursday, September 17, 2020 scaled through its first and second reading before it was committed to the House Committee on Information for scrutiny.
Information and Strategy Commissioner, Mr. Ini Ememobong had during the public hearing which preceded the passage of the bill into law, emphasized that the request by the state government to have a distinct and recognizable identity was borne out of the acceptance if a preponderate similarities existing among state, tribe, countries and purpose.
