The immediate past governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has described the reelection of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State for a second term in office as a monumental victory for democracy and an expression of the wishes of citizens of Edo state.
Obaseki had switched camp from the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the twilight of his first tenure and pitched tent with the Peoples Democratic Party where he picked it’s sole ticket to stand as the party’s candidate in the just concluded governorship contest.
The former governor said in a statement he issued in Minna, Niger state, signed by his media aide, that the result of the election was an expression of the wishes and desire of citizens in the state to have Godwin Obaseki explore the more lofty, people friendly and oriented programmes for the good of the state and it’s citizens.
Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu also singled out President Muhammadu Buhari’s message of congratulations to the winner of the polls and noted that President Buhari’s message of congratulations was an attestation of the political maturity of the ruling party to have accepted defeat in good faith and congratulated the winner without any double face.
Dr. Babangida Aliyu who is also a member of the party’s Board if Trustees, said Obaseki’s victory under the flagship of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo state indicated that the party was most accepted political party in the state.
He commended the efforts of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Uche Secondus and noted that the national leadership of the party had done their groundworks well enough even as he praised the resilient spirit of all members and supporters of the party in Edo and those elsewhere who showed solidarity with the Edo chapter of the party at the crucial time of the just concluded Edo gubernatorial election.
He charged losers at the polls to accept the outcome of the election described as credible, free and fair by all, and team up to support the governor elect so that the state could be placed on higher pedestals of development according to the well tailored manifesto of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).
And whilst congratulating governor Godwin Obaseki, the former two time governor of Niger state as well as the Chairman of the Nineteen Northern Governors Forum, tasked the reelected governor to focused, result oriented and make his new political party a truly proud political platform and indeed a better choice for all people of Edo state.
He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) for conducted a credible election even as he expressed optimism that subsequent elections in the country would be as foul proof as the Edo governorship election. ==//==
