Amidst the ongoing process towards the selection of a new Vice Chancellor for University of Ibadan, a body, the Gaskiya Group (TGG) on Saturday alerted of alleged plans by some cabals at imposing their candidate on the institution.
The body in a statement by its Coordinator, Comrade Bala Ayodele made available to newsmen alleged that the said Cabals in the University are hell bent towards ensuring their “ordain and predestine” candidate emerged as the next University of Ibadan Vice Chancellor.
TGG emphasized that the planned ordination and predestine of a particular candidate is presently becoming an ugly trend in the on going process of selection of a new Vice Chancellor .
The group maintained that “as stakeholders concerned with sustaining the rising profile of the University, we are afraid of this trend which in theory can be described as that of “ordination’ and ‘predestination”
According to TGG , this clearly portend ” a situation in which a particular candidate has already been ordained and predestined to occupy the office of the Vice- Chancellor, by some cabals in the University, even before the commencement of the race.”
“This tactically wane the support for other candidates and play up the candidacy of the annointed one. This is an affirmation that selection process has been cleverly and technically compromised”, it said.
Making reference to purported chains of communication flying around social media platforms on the appointment of new Vice Chancellor for University of Ibadan, within the campus which are indicative of the foregoing premonition”, the group charged stakeholders in the institution to rise to the ocassion towards salvaging the University in the on going selection process es.
“TGG hereby call on all stakeholders in the project of taking this great University to a higher level where it can compete favourably globally, to rise and condemn this obnoxious trend”.
The group also alleged of purported plans by the said cabals at influencing and sponsoring of l individuals into the University’s Senate towards having their ways for annointed candidate as the next Vice Chancellor of the University.
It then charged the Federal Government, the University of Ibadan Governing Council and the general public to take technical note of the “dangerous politics” and its possible negative effects on the University.
” We call on the University Council, the Federal Government and the general public to take technical note of this dangerous politics that may plunge the university into an unprecedented calamity. Time is now to safe the university from avoidable crisis of integrity and confidence. Let’s avoid an implosion.”.ENDS.
