Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has said that his administration will promote and uplift the general well-being of persons with disability by encouraging the public to change their negative perception against them.
He was speaking Tuesday at the distribution of 90 mobility carts to persons with disability across the twenty Local Government Areas of Bauchi held at the state capital.
To achieve the set objective, the governor revealed, the Bauchi state government under his leadership will soon constitute the Boar of Agency for Persons with Disability to champion their cause.
Governor Bala observed that the distribution of the carts will no doubt cater for the needs of the beneficiaries, thereby addressing locomotion as one of the most important needs of any human being.
The governor explained that the tricycle carts would provide an opportunity for the disabled to maximize their potentials, thrive and contribute valuably to their society and the nation at large.
“Let me congratulate all persons living with disability in Bauchi state on this auspicious occasion, and I want to charge them to maximize the opportunities and platforms that have been provided for them by the present administration”.
He assured the disabled that government will continue to encourage them to be united in the pursuit of their dreams of social inclusion, as well as improving the quality of their lives by ensuring that they enjoy their full rights and privileges as citizens of the state.
According to him, the PDP administration in the state will formulate and implement policies and guidelines as appropriate for the education and social development of persons with disability.
Bala assured the readiness of his administration to aggressively continue to pursue policies and programmes being tailored to transform the lives of the generality of the people of Bauchi state irrespective of age, tribe, religion or infinity.
He therefore enjoined individuals endowed with wealth, corporate organizations and institutions to always factor for the less privilege, especially the vulnerable ones and others with challenges of disability in their charitable intervention initiatives.
Governor Bala expressed delight that Bruder-Hilfe is the first organization among the five that he signed agreement with during his visit last March to the Federal Republic of Germany.
Bala described his visit to Germany as very productive during which he signed five memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the areas of agriculture, education, road construction, water and sanitation which actualization with German investors has just began.
President of the German-based NGO who delivered the mobility carts consignment to Bauchi, Mrs. Mary Bamigbe said the carts are meant to cushion the hardship being faced by the disabled persons in Bauchi state.
Bamigbe assured the governor that the German-based NGO, Bruder-Hilfe Sozial Development Initiative will continue to do more by putting smile on the faces of vulnerable members in Bauchi in the areas of education and health.
She commended the governor for his efforts in ensuring the presentation of the carts, describing it as a clear demonstration of quality leadership he has been providing to Bauchi people, as well as carrying everyone along including the persons with disability.
“Your Excellency, the mobility carts are humanitarian support from Bruder-Hilfe, an NGO based in Germany in collaboration with the Nigerian Embassy, Germany and in partnership with the Bauchi State Government. This is the first phase of the intervention in Bauchi state”, Mary said.
Mrs. Mary Bamigbe explained that catering for the needy and welfare of the vulnerable is a collective responsibility, hence the need for all to support and take care of the needy in the society.
She revealed that the mobility cart serves two purposes namely easing one’s day-today movements, and starting a business to earn a living as, according to her, it was made with special provisions to accommodate mobile business.
Bruder-Hilfe President also commended Nigerian envoy to Germany, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar for his commitment and support in ensuring the success of the project, and supporting Nigerians in diaspora to succeed in their various endeavours, as well as promoting cooperation among the government and private sectors in Nigeria and Germany.
Bamigbe similarly hailed the NGO’s international donors, MEDSHARE, and Centre for Poverty Reduction for their continuous support to the course of humanity, and appreciated the team of KYAUTATA WA IYALI MAITAMA TUGGAR Community and Empowerment Initiative for working together with her throughout the programme.
