FG Promises More Agric Reforms To Address Economic Challenges

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Sabo Nanono has reiterated federal government’s resolve towards boosting the sector  as part of efforts to address the economic challenges confronting the country. 

Speaking while Commissioning of Agribusiness Incubation Centre (AIC) at the Federal University Dutse, assured of the federal government’s commitment towards promoting agricultural sector to better the nation’s economic drive.

According to him,  the practical manifestation of series of agricultural advancement in areas of provision of different facets of soft loans to peasant, medium and large scale farmers nationwide, coupled with fertilizers support, and agric implements at affordable prices could best attest to government’s ideal nobles to buttress the intended mission.

Earlier in her remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Dutse, Professor  Fatima Batul Mukhtar indicated that the establishment of this gigantic centre was firstly conceived by the Association of Deans of Agriculture in Nigeria (ADAN) wholly adopted and developed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) as key activity in the implementation of agricultural promotion policy nationwide.

The VC maintained that the centre established as centre of excellence for the dissemination of the best agricultural practices for the expansion of the capacity of Nigerian farmers to produce food and agricultural products on a sustainable basis.

According to her, for the centre to be effective, it needs the federal government’s assistance in facilitating mobility for staff, rice milling accessories as well as provision of access road to the centre.

Professor Mukhtar also reminded the minister of their pending requests for the transfer of Nigeria Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) to the university, among other requests.

Responding, the Agric Minister assured to look into the requests, while commending the university for the achievement and promised more federal government’s commitment towards promoting agricultural sector for a better economy in the country.
