The Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), Barrister Boss Gida Mustapha has said that the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, has continued to pride itself as a citadel of learning and academic excellence.
He stated this at the commissioning of Ecological Fund intervention at the main Campus of the phase 1& 2 site of the university.
Represented by Dr. Habiba Muda Lawal, Permanent Secretary Ecological Fund office, he said, it is grappling with huge infrastructural deficit and environmental threat that requires and external support to complement the university’s drive of sustaining its prestigious fame and standards.
Boss Mustapha said the occasion has marked a new epoch in the history of the great University in the quest to expand ABU facilities and structures in order to ensure serene academic environment capable of producing world class graduates.
According to him, it is imperative to mention that the ecological fund office has been in the vanguard of providing succor to the University’s moribund structures.
The SGF said, to consolidate the gains of this great strides, the Federal Government through the ecological fund office has continued to implement massive flood/erosion control projects across the country which is a demonstration of the sincererity of purpose of the Muhammad Buhari-led administration towards entrenching Justice equity and fair play to all and sandry.
In her address, the Permanent Secretary Ecological Fund Office, Dr. Habiba Muda Lawal said the project is one of the Federal Government’s ecological intervention projects which contracts were approved by the Federal Executive Council on September, 8, 2020.
Represented by Engr. Felix Okeke, she said that the project was initiated through a request by the university authorities for an urgent intervention to address the arlaming deterioration arising from erosion and flood menace as well as to improve the access road to the newly completed Dangote Hostel in particular and between the main campus phase 1&2 of the institution.
Dr. Habiba said the handing over of the project to the beneficiaries is intended to achieve the dual purpose of enabling the university community take over the ownership of the project to ensure its care and sustainability.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kabir Bala expressed gratitude to the Ecological Fund office for the successful completion with high degree of Professionalism.
Prof. Bala also said, they will continue to solicit for more interventions in the future as the university being old and also expanding, requires a lot of upgrades and improvements in its infrastructure.
The Vice Chancellor used the occasion to announced the naming of BZ round about at main campus site to Dr.Habiba Muda Lawal and assuring that he will forward the proposal to the University Council for endorsement.
