Troops of Operation Sahel Sanity have arrested a suspected illegal arms supplier, Usman Ibrahim from Ryom in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State with over two million Naira cash in his possession.
A statement by the Action Director, Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters, Abuja, Brig. General Bernard Onyeuko said the suspected gun runner was arrested on 10th September by troops acting on actionable intelligence.
Onyeuko said investigation shows that the suspect is a major illegal arms dealer supplying bandits in the North-West.
“The suspect was arrested with 890 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition carefully concealed in his vehicle. Other items recovered from him include, 1 Jack knife, 1 Pistol Grip, a Nigerian Police ID card and N2,230,000 cash,” he said.
Onyeuko added that on the same 10th September, troops conducting clearance operation at Shekewa general area destroyed several bandits camps during which one bandit was killed and three suspected bandits namely Adamu Musa, Hassan Bello and Rabiu Salisu were arrested.
Onyeuko said on 2nd September, as a result of the intensity of Operation Sahel Sanity, a bandit leader name Sada willingly surrendered to troops at Forward Operation Base Dansadau in Maru local government area of Zamfara and submitted 3 AK 47 rifles, one Sub Machine Gun and 2 Magazines.
Onyeuko said on 6th September, troops conducting stop and search along Bingi road in Maru local government area of Zamfara state intercepted a suspected bandit name Isah Shehu also known as ‘Commander’ with camouflage uniform concealed in his bag.
He said on 7th September, troops at Forward Operation Base Kekuwuje while on routine patrol arrested 2 suspected bandits who are members of a bandit group terrorizing the area and recovered N1,565,550 cash and a motorcycle.
“Similarly, troops acting on reliable intelligence arrested one Abubakar Ibrahim, who is suspected to be an informant working for a wanted notorious bandit leader named Ado Alieru who admitted during interrogation that Mr Alieru bought him a motorbike which he uses in carrying out assignments for him,” he said.
Onyeuko added that on 8th September, troops deployed at Daki Takwas intercepted and arrested 17 armed Yansakai members from Maga in Kebbi state on 7 motorcycles at Danmarke village in Bukkuyum local government area of Zamfara state and recovered 7 locally fabricated Dane guns, 7 motorcycles and assorted charms.
The Acting Director said on 12th September, troops arrested two suspects arrested a wanted suspected bandit named Usman Gorjo at Ungwar Alhaji Danbuzu and also another suspected bandit informant named Isah Bala at Daudawa village in connection with the killing of the head of Daudawa vigilante group recently.
