Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday jointly visited the scene of railway train accident that killed one person and injured another in Oshodi area of the state on Monday.
On his twitter handle Governor Sanwo-Olu said: “Today, I visited the scene of the train accident at Oshodi involving a train and two vehicles in the company of the Minister of Transportation, Hon.Rotimi Amaechi.
“It is regrettable that this happened on the day stakeholders reached a consensus to close the gates into the arena.”
The authority of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) while narrating what happened on its twitter account said three vehicles were involved in the accident, including an SUV and a Volkswagen with registration number GGE 972 GE.
According to LASEMA, “A thirdvehicle, a highlander JEEP was also involved in the collision and its passengers (2 adult males) sustained serious injuries before being transported to Hospital.
“One has since lost his life while the other is undergoing treatment.”
Giving further details concerning the rail-road mishap, LASEMA spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, disclosed that the deceased adult was the driver of the crushed Toyota Highlander with registration number FST 723 FL, while the son is in hospital at present.
LASEMA warned motorists against thinking that they can outsmart an approaching train.
“Road users are reminded to obey traffic regulations to prevent loss of life, injuries and transport delays.
“All vehicles are cautioned to stop at level crossings and refrain from the dangerous habit of thinking that they can outsmartly cross even when train is already approaching,” LASEMA instructed.
