The national president, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Architect Kabir Ibrahim has said that Nigerian farmers would continue to boost food production and promote self-reliance especially at present when the federal government is bringing out more strategies to restore agricultural sector at all levels.
He stated this in a statement he personally signed and issued to our correspondent in Kano, adding that Nigerian farmers are working in accordance with President Muhammadu Buhari’s policy on agriculture which is correlating to the global system of food production with bumper harvests.
The statement also commended the federal government for directing the national Apex bank not to give any foreign exchange to those who would import food and fertilizers into the country which is an encouragement to farmers in boosting their food production with high yield at both dry and rainy seasons.
Architect Kabir Ibrahim stressed that, “AFAN wishes to commend the president for his efforts to assist farmers affected by flooding which is another testimony that the federal government is trying to compensate those who lost their crops as a result of heavy down pour in some states, and this is a welcome idea and we are certain that food security is getting full supports at all levels”.
In conclusion, the AFAN national president assured that the current high food price would become historic because in the near future, the food price will drop especially when the harvesting period is drawing nearer.
He greeted Nigerian farmers for remaining very committed to food production programme, despite some challenges.
