Teenager Drowns In Onitsha Flood

A teenager resident in Onitsha, Anambra State has been swept away by a ravaging flood that was caused by heavy downpour in the area.

It was gathered that the deceased whose identity is still unknown, but a trader got drowned while attempting to cross over a drainage that had plank as its cover at Ochanja market round-about axis.

An eye witness who identified himself as Ifejiofor said, “Immediately he stepped on the plank used to cross the gutter between the shop and the road, the plank broke and he fell into the deep gutter.

“He was washed away by the speeding flood to the Nwangene River. If he had waited for the rain to subside before stepping out of the shop, he wouldn’t have died”.

He added that efforts made by passers-by to rescue the deceased proved abortive abortive as the body was swiftly swept away by the ravaging flood.

Information has it that a search party made up of traders and some motorists who made effort to rescue the deceased body returned empty-handed.
